Activities, beaches, dining, experiences, and curated stays for the Heritage event
Every April, Hilton Head Island trades its flip-flops for tartan. Mornings start with bikes rolling under live oaks and Spanish moss in Sea Pines, the air still cool and the azaleas in full bloom. Afternoons turn on the roar from the 18th green at Harbour Town, carried in on a salt breeze off Calibogue Sound. Evenings slow down on the wide, quiet sand of Palmetto Dunes and Forest Beach, with the whole family around one table. It’s golf week for every generation, and there’s room for all of them.
Thoughtfully hosted Hilton Head stays.

Travel Tips
What you should know and prepare for the big event.
Five local tips for the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing, from getting around tournament crowds to enjoying the island beyond the fairways. A little planning goes a long way.

Tip 01
Plan Your Transportation Early
Heritage week is one of the island’s busiest, and traffic stacks up around Sea Pines and Harbour Town. Bike when you can, ride the official tournament shuttles, and leave extra time to reach the course. Confirm parking and shuttle details before you head out.
Tip 02
Dress for Comfort and Coastal Weather
April brings warm, bright days, but a breeze off the sound or a passing shower can roll in by afternoon. Wear comfortable walking shoes and breathable layers. Pack sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, and a light rain jacket.
Tip 03
Book Dinner Reservations Early
Tables around Harbour Town and Sea Pines fill fast during tournament week, especially on the water. Reserve well ahead, or eat a little earlier or later than the dinner rush. It’s a good week to try local seafood and Lowcountry cooking.
Tip 04
Explore Beyond the Course
The tournament may bring you here, but the island gives you reasons to stay longer. Spend an afternoon on the beach, ride the bike paths, climb the Harbour Town Lighthouse, or catch a sunset cruise between rounds.
Tip 05
Choose a Home That Fits Your Group
Skip the hotel room for a private Host & Home vacation rental with space to spread out and a full kitchen. Couples, friends, or three generations all get room to unwind and gather. Book early for the best selection near Harbour Town and across the island.
Parking Updates · Official Spectator Guide
Parking lots, shuttle routes, and gate entry details change every year. Check the official RBC Heritage spectator guide at rbcheritage.com/spectators for the latest parking, entry, and tournament information before you go.

Settle In Before the Week Begins
The course is closed to spectators on Monday, which makes it the right day to settle in. Pick up groceries, unpack, and take a slow walk on the beach before the island fills up. If you’re biking to Harbour Town this week, ride the route once today so you know the way. Tomorrow, Heritage week starts in earnest.

Opening Ceremony and Practice Rounds
Tuesday is when the 59th annual RBC Heritage officially begins. At noon, the opening ceremony parade sets off from Liberty Oak at Harbour Town Yacht Basin and finishes on the 18th green. Defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick marches alongside Heritage Classic Foundation board members, volunteers, and state dignitaries, all to the sound of the Citadel’s Regimental Pipe Band. It’s a kickoff rooted in the tournament’s Scottish heritage, and you won’t see another like it on the PGA TOUR. Pros play practice rounds all day at their own pace, so you can walk the course and watch them work through Harbour Town up close. Tournament shuttles from Honey Horn and Coligny start running at 6:30 a.m., and youth 15 and under get free grounds access with a ticketed adult. Come early, find a spot along the marina, and let the week start the way it’s meant to.

Pro-Am Day at Harbour Town
Wednesday belongs to the RBC Heritage Pro-Am. PGA TOUR pros tee off from the 1st and 10th tees between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m., with a second wave from noon to 12:50 p.m. Each pro plays alongside amateur partners, which gives the day a relaxed, conversational feel you won’t find once scoring starts. It’s an easy day to get close to the action before the weekend crowds arrive. The RBC Heritage Golf Outing, with no pros in the field, follows from both tees between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. Use the quieter pace to scout your favorite viewing spots, from the free bleachers on every hole to the Heritage Lawn along the 18th fairway. Young fans can collect autographs in the Autograph Zone by the driving range, the one spot on property where autographs are allowed.

The First Round Tees Off
The first round is underway, with every professional teeing off from the 1st tee starting around 7:30 a.m. Opening day is a good time to follow a favorite group down the first fairway, then settle in at the Heritage Lawn to watch the tournament broadcast on the large video boards. For lunch, Fraser’s at the Pavilion sits under the Clubhouse next to the 10th tee, and concession stands run by local civic and non-profit volunteers are spread around the course.

Second Round at Harbour Town
The second round starts from the 1st tee at approximately 7:30 a.m. It’s the last weekday round, so the leaderboard starts to take shape heading into the weekend. Spend the afternoon at the 1 & 9 Village, an open-air spot between holes 1 and 9 with its own video board, the Elijah Craig Speakeasy, and the Wicked Weed Beer Bar. Bike in if you can: complimentary bicycle parking sits by the Clubhouse lot and alongside the 13th green.

Plaid Nation Day
Saturday is Plaid Nation Day, so wear your plaid with pride. The third round starts at approximately 7:30 a.m., and the course turns into a sea of tartan from the first tee to the 18th green. From noon to 2:00 p.m., the Plaid Nation Games take over the Heritage Lawn, which makes it the place to be with kids in tow. The Family Care Suite on the lawn gives families a dedicated space to regroup, and youth 15 and under get free grounds access with a ticketed adult. Forgot to pack something plaid? Stop by the Peter Millar tent on the Heritage Lawn. It’s a festive day, and the one families tend to remember.

Final Round and the Tartan Jacket
Sunday opens quietly with a Sunrise Service at 7:30 a.m. under Liberty Oak, with local ministers, music, and nondenominational prayer. No ticket is needed, and all are welcome. The final round begins at approximately 7:30 a.m. as the leaders chase the title around Harbour Town one last time. As the afternoon builds, find a spot near the 18th green, where the finishing hole runs toward the red-and-white lighthouse. The trophy presentation follows on the 18th green as soon as play wraps. That’s when this year’s champion pulls on the tartan plaid jacket. It’s the moment the whole week builds to.

What to see and do around the island during your stay.
01Climb the Lighthouse
Harbour Town · 114 Steps · $8 Per Person
Climb 114 steps for a view over the Harbour Town Yacht Basin, the 18th fairway of Harbour Town Golf Links, and Calibogue Sound out to Daufuskie Island and its Haig Point Lighthouse. Landings along the way make it a manageable climb for kids and grandparents alike. Time it for sunset, when the sound turns gold and the marina lights come on below.
02Hang Out on the Heritage Lawn
16th Green · 17th Tee · 18th Hole
The Heritage Lawn sits between the 16th green, 17th tee, and 18th hole, with Calibogue Sound as the backdrop. Grab lunch from the food trucks, browse the Peter Millar tent, and settle in at the open-air Heritage Lawn Club, often presented by Latitude Margaritaville, for a front-row look at the 18th tee. The Family Care Suite, a Novant Health First Aid Station, and junior golf activities are all right on the lawn.
03Bike Through Sea Pines
Sea Pines · Flat, Shaded Leisure Trails
During Heritage week, two wheels beat four through Sea Pines. The flat, shaded leisure trails suit training wheels and beach cruisers alike, so the whole family can ride together. Pedal to the lighthouse at Harbour Town, roll out to South Beach for ice cream, or loop through the Sea Pines Forest Preserve to spot alligators sunning on the banks.
04Play a Round at Legendary Golf
36 Holes · 2 Courses · 40 Years on the Island
Legendary Golf brings country club style to mini golf, with 36 holes across two courses and 40 years of family rounds behind it. It’s consistently rated one of the best mini golf courses in South Carolina. After a day watching the pros at Harbour Town, it’s the best way to hand the putter to the youngest golfer in the family.
Relaxed Atmosphere · Island Favorites
Dining
A few local favorites for a quiet, sit-down experience. From smoky Southern barbecue to a fine-dining grill on the 18th.

Fraser’s Tavern
Plantation Club · Sea Pines
Fraser’s Tavern looks out over the Heron Point and Atlantic Dunes courses, with smoke from the barbecue drifting out on the coastal breeze. The menu sticks to Southern barbecue and tavern classics, led by a signature burger that blends short rib, brisket, and chuck on a toasted sesame bun. It’s a relaxed lunch after a morning on the course, for golfers and kids alike.
Quarterdeck
Harbour Town · Rooftop Oyster Bar
Quarterdeck sits steps from the Harbour Town Lighthouse, with a wraparound deck and a rooftop oyster bar that takes in 270 degrees of Harbour Town, Calibogue Sound, and the 18th hole. The kitchen leans on local seafood and South Carolina-grown ingredients, from charcoal-roasted plates to a full raw bar. Come for sunset, the way islanders have for decades.
Links, An American Grill
Harbour Town Clubhouse · Sea Pines
Links overlooks Harbour Town Golf Links, so dinner comes with a view of the course the pros just played. Chateaubriand for Two and A5 Wagyu filet mignon headline the grill, backed by a Wine Spectator award-winning wine list, local craft beer, and handcrafted cocktails. Save it for the night you want to celebrate, from an anniversary to the final round.

Folly Field Beach
Beyond the Bustle · Mid-Island · 6 A.M.–9 P.M.

Terrapin
Peaceful Dining · Palmetto Hall · 108 Fort Howell Dr
Terrapin
Terrapin is the new restaurant at Palmetto Hall Golf & Country Club, well away from Harbour Town’s tournament traffic. Book a table after a round, or for an unhurried evening with just your family.
Fishcamp on Broad Creek
Peaceful Dining · Broad Creek · 11 Simmons Rd
Fishcamp on Broad Creek
Fishcamp on Broad Creek sits in the restored Simmons Fishing Camp building, on land whose history reaches back to the island’s Gullah community. Settle in for a long lunch or a sunset dinner on the water, a world away from the crowds at Harbour Town.

Course & Tournament History
Heritage
Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines

Where It Started
The Heritage Golf Classic teed off in 1969, founded by Charles E. Fraser, the developer behind Sea Pines, to introduce Hilton Head Island to the golf world. Pete Dye designed the brand-new Harbour Town Golf Links with help from Jack Nicklaus.
Arnold Palmer won that first tournament, a comeback victory that gave the young event national attention.
A Course With Character
Harbour Town doesn’t play like most TOUR stops. Towering pines, salt marsh, and wind off Calibogue Sound test the best players, and the finishing hole runs toward the red-and-white Harbour Town Lighthouse.
Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Hale Irwin, and Davis Love III have all won here, and since 1987 each champion has pulled on a tartan jacket honoring the region’s Scottish roots.
The Heritage Today
RBC became title sponsor in 2012, and the tournament now runs as the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing, set for April 12–18, 2027. More than five decades in, it’s still the island’s biggest week of the year.
When play wraps, the shops, marina, and lighthouse at Harbour Town are a short walk from the 18th green.
